I have a 1985 125 HP Force outboard that has been through two CD units so far. The boat has recently been taken out of longterm storage and was used very little in the past, with myself being one of the original owners. The engine has very low hours on it but during the time that it was in the water I've gone through two CD ignition units. The same CD pack (A) stops sending spark to the coil for the top cylinder. Previously I was told the engine may have an electrical short but when I took it to a marina for testing, the technician couldn't find any short. After replacing the CD unit in question, the motor ran fine for some time with spark at all four coils but then lost power when I had it out at high throttle, losing power once again to that same cylinder. All other cylinders continue to have spark, including the other cylinder that is powered by the defective CD unit. Could it be the stator that needs to be replaced? Thanks for any response.
