In a (misguided) attempt to clean up some connections and such, I took the lid off the tilt/trim motor on my '85 Force 85 and now don't know how to put it back together. I know - it worked OK, so best left alone, but that ship has now sailed. I am attaching a diagram, and the real issue is I don't know where the "brush set" goes when reassembling (it is part 39 on the attached diagram). There are flexible wires and then the brushes at the end, so they came loose when I opened it up. Does it wrap around? Are there specific slots the two brushes are supposed to go in? Is there an orientation to the wires and brushes? Thanks for your help.

You have to pull the brushes back when reassembling the board were the holders for the brushes are mounted.
Maybe use some tooth picks to hold them back.
Then put the cover on.
Can be a PIA.

Like Nordin said: You have to hold the brushes back and slide it over the armature. Google is a big help. The schematic shows the pump/electric motor. The position of the top shows the wire oriented to the back of the housing. make sure it looks that way when assembled.
