1985 Johnson 40HP missing at idle

[Bonstrosity]

I have the motor above and it sounds/acts like a harley motorcycle when it is idling. It will shake and sputer but it stays running. The motor is a little hard to start when cold but will start right up if it has run. Above idle it smooths out and runs just fine. I have cleaned the carbs and replaced the plugs with the same issue. Any ideas where to look? carb adjustment? possible ignition issues with other parts?

Have you set the slow speed needles? That might make a big difference to your idle. Have a look here from the Top Secret File at the beginning of this forum. Best of luck. Rick.
