just got through test running a 1985 johnson 6hp in a barrel, starts good, runs good , pumps plenty of water. but the leg/ midsection seems to be getting overly hot. what could cause that?...or is it even an issue? ( lu was submerged abaout 4 inches above the impeller)

Is the water in the barrel overly warm? How hot is the leg getting? Too hot to hold your hand against it?

id guess that the water in the barrel was about 50f, air temp around 40f. the leg wasnt so hot that you couldnt put you hand on it, but hotter than what i thought it should be, almost as warm as the head. and i was also test running an 8hp, the leg barely got warm. ( for any trailer park boys fans.....mr lahey pulled in the driveway and bought the 8hp lol)

Do the water tubes inside the leg have small holes drilled in them? Just found the holes in my water tubes recently, and was told that they are there to cool the leg.

If these holes are standard, maybe yours are plugged? Just a thought anyway.
