1985 Johnson 90hp overheat, new impeller

I need some ideas, guys. Mechanic put a new water pump kit (new housing, et al) on my engine. Ran great the first trip; second trip a week later and hardly any water pressure from the tell-tale & the overheat alarm sounded.
Thermostat? Clog? I'm not sure where to start.

Well, I overreacted. Apparently there was vegitation clogging my water intake. Fished a tournament & everything worked great (except the big fish).
