Just bought a pontoon boat with a 1985 Mariner outboard. Real clean and good shape, lots of extras. Owner said it ran last year! Found that the starter solenoid was wired wrong, positive on one lug and negative on other- direct short. Bought a new solenoid and starter turns over motor but no spark. Used 12 volt lite tester and if I grounded test lite and checked for voltage at black box (side of motor) top terminal the motor would start and run. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this motor, looks like its wired right but after finding the battery cables wired wrong at solenoid I wonder. I disconnected the harnass from the control box thinking the key switch or safty switch was shorted and not letting it start. Manual said that if the harnass was disconnected it would start but not be able to shut it off. Hopefully its nothing too serious, because it does run! Thanks Gordie
