i have eliminated the oil injection on my mercury black max 135hp and i have a 40 liter fuel tank on the boat, was just wondering how much oil you would mix with the 40 liters of fuel, i like to put in one liter of oil, since it is very convinient like that, is that about good or to much or to little? thanks

50:1 ratio would be 800ml per 40 liters. You aren't really gaining anything by running yours at 40:1. My 82 black max 175 was never oil injected so I just dump in 400ml oil, pump in 20L and repeat until the tank starts getting close to full, then I go 200ml, dump in 10L to top up the tank.

32 oz to 10 gal of gas. you can get a mixing bottle at your local west marine with mix ratios marked on the outside for appropriate amounts of oil to gas

Just use good quality oil, like quicksilver or pennzoil, crap no name oil isn't merc friendly, and put a good water/fuel separator on it, and use good gas like shell v power91

That motor should be mixed at 50::1. Adding 1 L of oil gives 40::1 which is a bit rich. 32 oz is also about 40::1. Rogue has the right idea about geting the mixing botlle. Remember 1 litr is 1.06 quarts, so 4L is about 1 gallon.

Cajun has his own opinion about 2 cycle. Of course everyone has one of those. I would experiment with regular TCW-III oil, and semi synthetic and see what works.

Hate to jump this post but I got one question.
I have to mix my gas & oil also, is it ok to mix it and store for a week or two in 5 gallon cans and add to the fuel tank?

50hp Outboard Merc

Thanks!

Mixed fuel will last a long time, if the containers are sealed.

Everybody has opinions is correct, use cheap oil and i can certainly put you in line for a rebore and rebuild. 99% of the v6 mercs that come in are blown up by crap oil and cheap gas with high water/ethanol, the others are caused by people that don't know how to adjust carbs or flow injectors. Come by our merc machine shop, you can view the big pile of broken blocks and cranks in the backyard yourself. At the cost of machining and rebuilding a v6 2.4 or 2.5 you can't afford to experiment, better be educated and savvy about your maintenance, trust me, the worst feeling in boating, is stickin' a piston on plane, just when your thinkin' "ain't life grand" @ 85mph,

I have never see the TCW-III Certified product called "Crap Oil". I will be on the look out for it, so I can be sure to put it in my Merc V6. I will also be looking out for "Cheap Gas", and will be sure to ask if it contains lots of water.

All kidding aside, Cajun Do you have any criteria for the "Crap" and "Cheap" products you have slammed? Do you have any analysis or emperical evidence as to what those owners of the blown up motors used for fuel?

Hey everyone. When i created this post i had just rebuilt my merc 135. I have used mostly but penzoil outboard oil at 50:1 premixed, and the engine is still running strong almost 10 yrs later now.

Good for you. Nothing like following the OEM's recommendations and using a TC-WIII rated oil. Was that Pennzoil "dino" oil or synthetic oil?
