Hey guys I was just wondering. Does this motor ('86 200hp E200STLCDR) flow water BEFORE or AFTER the thermostats?? I am working on this for a friend and he says it was flowing water before he added a low water pickup. I pulled the lower and it had a bad waterpump gasket. Hooked the hose up to the input line with stat covers off and it had water coming out of the stat holes. Put the lower back on (with Bob's nosecone) and no water flow. Port head got to 170, starboard head was at 178 before I shut it down. I felt like if it was going to start flowing it would have done it by then........... [h=1][/h]

mine (86 225hp) starts peeing at a slow rate about a minute (maybe less ) after the motor is started...then gets stronger as the stats open up..

remove the t-stats housings, remove the stats and replace the housing and try the motor....the tell tale should pee pretty hard...if not...its your pump, or the tube from the exhaust housing is not in the pump....I swear they could have designed that better....it is so hard to hold LU up, squeeze your fingers to guide that tube into the pump.

Just thought I would update here guys.

So the owner of this boat put a lower unit with a nose cone (low water pickup) on it. I asked him to give me the original gearcase. Low and behold, the driveshaft on the low water gearcase is 1/4" longer. I put the original gearcase back on, and water, she is a flowin'. So the reason this was having issues is because the watertube never seated into the pump housing.
