~I recently purchased a 1986 50hp Force engine. and Mon Arc boat. Bottom line I can't get the motor running. Im not extremely adept with mechanics but I know some basics. If I have good instructions I can get by. I'll tell you what I've experienced so far with the motor. The plugs have a really strong blue arc. When I was first cranking it, it was flooding badly. So I removed the bowl from the carb and checked the float. It was moving freely.( used a fair amount of carb cleaner as well) Put the bowl back on and tried starting again. The flooding subsided. From there I tried starting the engine and it " fired" several times but still would not run. After several attempts it flooded. Which I'm assuming is normal. I let it sit for a good amount of time. This time I tried some engine starter and still no good. I had the motor in a large tub of water and after cranking it and having it fire multiple times there was some black and silver crud floating in it. Not a huge amount. But there was some. I hope I was able to give enough information to get some trouble shooting. I got the boat and motor for a cheap price and Im trying to avoid spending several hundred dollars at a mechanic. Any help will be greatly appreciated. If pics of anything will help I can get them. ( Side note. The motor looks really clean and in good shape.

Welcome, fill out the profile, location.
You might be close to someone who can help.(cheap)
Do a compression test.
Then check the flywheel for a broken key.

You have to take the flywheel completely off to check the key correct? I don't think I have the equipment for that job :/

No take the top plug out. Insert a screwdriver in until it hits.
Then slowly turn the fly wheel till the screwdriver comes out as far as it will go.
Then around the front, above the carb is a timing marker on the intake.
It should come close to a mark on the flywheel.
Will try to post a pic of the marks.
Can't find the pics I was thinking about.

Maybe someone will show you a pic of the timing marks for your 50

You said the motor tried to "fire" but will not ran. Double check the following:
Make sure the fuel idle mixture screw is set 1~1 1/8 turn out from slightly seated. You cannot miss this screw on the carb for it has a spring on it. However, if the spring is receded with the screw, the screw itself is brass in color and is positioned (facing the carb) around 1~2 o'clock position. First you need to screw it in until seated (make sure you do not force it for it can be damaged) and then back it out 1~1 1/8 turn out.

Next check the idle screw setting which is located at the bottom of the timing tower. There is a cam that links the tower to the carb throttles, at the bottom should be a screw with a lock nut on it. Loosen the nut and turn the idle screw in until it pushes against the engine block. Keep turning until there is slight movement in the cam that pushes against the carb linkage for about 1/8". Try again and let us know what happens.

He mentioned using starting fluid.
It should at least start some with the fluid.
