My boyfriend and I recently purchased our first boat from a friend. The boat had sat for 2 years so when we brought it home we cleaned the carb, changed the spark plugs, checked and cleaned the fuel filter and had to work on the steering as it was frozen. After all that we took it out on the water and we are not getting to more then 8-10 mph. The motor is running good and does not stall at all. I am not sure of the rpms as the gauge is broken. We do notice the prop is a little beat up too. Can anyone help us as we are totally new to the whole baoting thing? :) Thank you!!!

First thing to do at this point is a compression and spark test.
At the start of the forum page there is a sticky that has a link and sink by FrankA. Do that.
Check all fuel lines from tank to motor for any loose cracked pinched or collapsing.
Somewhere on the back of the boat is a fuel vent, make sure it is venting and not plugged.
Inside of the fuel tank is the fuel pickup tube, check the pre screen for plugging if any.
Check fuel pump diaphragm and filter, repair if needed.
Since its not dying out then I would suspect a spark issue, or throttle linkage out of adjustment. Could be timing as well.
Good luck and post what you find out.

Re: 1986 Baliner Capri w/ Force 50 motor not reaching top speed

Thank you!! We found out last night that one of our ignition coils is bad. We are only getting spark to one plug. Now we are on a search for a new coils as we only need the one and most places sell them as a set. If anyone can help us with parts or where to find used parts that would be great. The motor is a 1987 Force 50 Model #507X7C. Thank you again for your response!

I have found alot of parts for the force outboard on ebay.
Just make sure you have the proper part numbers so you can get the right one for your motor.
If you can afford it it may not hurt to order a new set and keep the known good one for a spare back up
and keep it in the boat. You never know when you might need it.
