1986 evinrude 9.9 pull rope

1986 -9.9 (E10RCDB) (E0597706)motor sat for 10 months,put on new power pack asumming that was problem. rope is really hard to pull, i mean really hard.dont believe it should be that hard ,never has in the past 10 yrs.at presnt ,cant get enuff spins on motor to start. PLEASE HELP .rob

Remove the spark plugs and squirt some type of lube in the cylinders and rotate the flywheel by hand and see if it gets easier to turn over. Could be there is a little rust or scale in the cylinders.

Agree with above but also throttle it all the way back put it in neutral and then throttle it until the throttle stops and then try to pull it. Did it make a difference? Best of luck. Rick.

what type of lube should i use to losen it up? thanks for your response.getting ready to try it.

I would use straight TCW-3 oil for starters. I'm having a hard time understanding how it could be that hard to turn after just 10 months of no use. They do have a recoil lock out feature if your throttle is too high or your in gear. It normally prevents the recoil from being pulled but maybe your just at the right spot where it drags terribly rather than locks. I can't help wonder if that is your problem. If it does not get easier to turn then drop the lower unit so that you will eliminate the gear case as a potential problem. Rick.
