motor seems to "miss" or "buck" when under load or accelerating. Makes a slamming noise. Can be very random. I thought I had it down to spark plugs. Seemed to always go away after I cleaned the plugs or replaced them. Today was first time it did it with fresh plugs. Its like a miss fire of some kind so im not thinking is a gear issue? I know its not prop slip I have maked the spindle and no movement. I guess im leaning towards replacing the spark plug power packs. I believe there original. Any input be much appreciated. Thanks guys.

Re: 1986 Force 125 miss or buck

Try biasing the shift linkage a little more toward forward. Lengthen the rod just a small amount and see if the bucking goes away. Shift linkage is under the bottom carb. There are two locknuts on either side of a moving plate. Raise the top nut about 1/2 turn and snug the bottom one up the same 1/2 turn.

If you don't want to do it there or can not, then below the transom clamps is the connector between the top and bottom shift rods. Pull out the cotter pin and the retaining pi. rotate the lower rosd 1/2 turn counterclockwise (up) re-insert the retaining pin and cotter pin.

Re: 1986 Force 125 miss or buck

Thanks for the help Frank. I cranked it up 1/2 turn. It did buck 2 seperate times after that but only 1 buck each where it would typically do it 4 5 or 6 times all in a row before I backed off the gas. I gave it one more 1/2 turn and gave it another go and could not get it to do it again. Not 100% sure what that rod does but seems like it did the trick. Thanks again, Shawn
