Have all the manuals for this motor but none tell me if a Air Box is made or required for this motor? I am not real keen on having the face of my carbs exposed as they are with just the engine cowl to cover them.:confused:

Hi Skycrane,

Need a serial number before anyone can help you... This is right in the era when Merc bought Mariner and started to change over to all Mercs in the line-up. So we need the serial number to know where to start looking for you....

That motor is a classic Merc 4cyl. The only 'cover' over the carbs is the intermediate cowling support. The carbs are not meant to have an airbox on them. Unless you boat on dusty water, you don't need any cover over the carbs :)
Just make sure the cowlings are all in place, and enjoy the ride.

Are you using factory manual or seloc/clymer? If you go to Mercs website and put the engine serial number in you'll find all the parts drawings....

I have the factory manuals. But no real breakdown in them, Just alot of black and white pics that are hard to make out. But from the responce that I got from another, the engine I have does not require a air box.
But do Thank You for your interest in helping me out. Any help is a great help...;)

Thanks again...
