I bought a small bass boat the lower was smashed. I found a lower replaced the water pump got everything put back together got the reverse lock cam in the right place for the shifter in the reverse position. So I'm then all excited I take it for a test run. I push the stick forward the engine jumps out of the water and it's moving in reverse. I pull the stick back we are moving forward. It ran awesome with the exception that I can't put it in forward because it is now reverse and won't lock. How do I fix that what could the issue be.

The clutch dog is spring loaded.-----If you took it apart in neutral it likely jumped into forward when you answered your phone.--------So remove lower unit.-----Put lower unit into neutral and control in neutral.----Assemble.-----Or have lower unit in forward and control in forward and assemble that way.----Fairly simple if you understand these lower units in my opinion.

Ok so that will allow it to shift in forward neutral and reverse just forward and reverse are swapped?

I'm not sure if you failed or not. I'm trying to get confirmation and maybe more information. I don't know the operation that's why I'm asking. The lower seems like it's in the wrong rotation. Forward is now reverse and reverse is now forward. I'm not sure if that's possible. Maybe wrong lower but everything looked exactly the same and bolted up perfectly.
