1986 Mercury 9.9 - Gas/Oil MIX?!?

I have a 1986 Mercury 9.9 outboard. I don't have the owner's manual and I don't know much about this engine. I have heard people say that this should be a 25:1 mix and others are saying 50:1 mix... I cna't find a definitive answer...<br /><br />I ran it yesterday with a 50:1 mix and it smoked a lot. Is this normal? It hasn't been run in 7 years and I just got it going - does this have anything to do with the smoke???<br /><br />Thanks!
