It is not a V5, but looks like a great find.

I'm not sure what makes a V5 but your hull is different from my 79 22' Islander. You have an extra strake where I have none.

Re: 20'v5 ss

Nor does my 22-, it 75 Holiday looks like a V5 from here. The rear view will show a promanate V instead of the more rounded like my Holiday ,either hull is fantastic in big water ,.. Good luck good looking begining.

Re: 20'v5 ss

Deeper V's were the result of wider beams that promoted sharper degreed deadrises.

V5 Hulls have the 2 xtra strakes inside the original strakes near the chines that are standard
on all our old Star's. The 4 strakes plus the keel equals 5, hence V5

The designer of the V5 apparently went to LUND and created IPS and IPS 2.

Anyway, the boat in this thread is a beauty and a great restoration platform. Should be a great project

The boat dozer is purchasing, and the one I am looking at are SS201 models that came only in I/O

They also came with a V5 option.

The seller of the 1985 I am looking at removed the I/O and modified the transom
and threw on a 65hp Rude, way underpowered for a 20'8 and a 96" beam.

The boat in question is definitely quite different. It will be interesting to find out more about it. Doesn't even look real Starcrafty!

Good call Starman, according to Steve at Starcraft it is an SS201, I gave him the HIN # and he decribed the boat to me exactly.

So you also have the secret # to Steve at the factory...................great

That guy knows his product, past and present, and has been a big help when I "fixed" the leaky 2000
I had, then sold.

Steve also is the source behind some of my comments when discussing leaks, such as open end keel strips, etc., and
yes, the drain holes in that strip????

Now, I ask you guys this. I can get a 1985 SS201, and you all seen the picture with the V5 strakes.

As mentioned, the owner modified the I/O and I have yet made an effort to see the boat. My guess is he
got the hull for cheap with a PO SH** car engine and/or cracked boot and made the conversion.

Now, here is the Q:

I/O's have the FULL transom(keyhole only) and the latitudinal stability is there at the very aft. When cutting that away
to create a splashwell for an outboard, common sense says the structure has been weakened.

Even with the cross-bracing we all have for of our splashwells, I am wondering what the correct procedure would be
to reinforce the conversion laterally.

Open for suggestions

how about leaving the transom as is, and installing an outboard bracket..or OFFSHORE bracket... I had been tinkering with that idea to save room inside my 18 footer......thats what i would do with an I/O hull.....make room inside and add a bracket to hang an outboard on!

Re: 20'v5 ss

No problem Jason, Think the only way would be to build a spalshwell of some kind, but in my opinion a knee brace is essential as well.
Steve really knows his stuff even though the computer files don't go back that far.
