You're riding in style Glen. Thanks for the motivation on that gas sipping 120. I can't wait to get mine up and running!

Glad you had a good time and caught some fish. Now you need a few more days off at home to recover?? ha ha

Re: 1986 ss 201

I know I just got home, but there is an SS waiting for me to work on. There were a couple important Ebay packages waiting for me when we got home. One was a nice new set of Felpro rubber valve cover gaskets best I could do locally was $48.95 for the set and off Ebay with shipping $22.00, so I got the valve covers painted and re-installed.

The other Ebay find was a real nice ski locker cover.

And I also found time to put the final coat of spar varnish on the floor for the fuel tank.

Did you even get unpacked before you started working on the SS? A dedicated Starmadian. :D

Well ya I got unpacked, just barely. A Starmadian has to have priorities, but he also has an Admiral that wanted the weed sprayed and the grass cut, always something.:D

Re: 1986 ss 201

Got the floor support for the tank all sealed up and installed with rivets. The old one only spanned three ribs, so I lengthend it to give the entire bottom of the tanks support.

I had a chunk of wash bay matting left over so it is going between the tank and the ply giving it breathable cushioning.

And the tank sitting in it's new home, I plan on using lengths of rubber hose to keep it in the center of the stringers and building a set of blocks that bolt to the front and rear cross bulkheads to cinch it down, more on that later.

Looking good, Glen. Rock solid. Are you planning a full size access hatch?

Really sharp Glen. Nice touch to leave space under the board as well for water to flow (should it get wet!) and to not have the metal directly touching the wood.

DozerII,

I stumbled upon this site and have read your thread entirely. It is very interesting to see your SS201 torn down as my father has an absolutely mint 1985 (he is very diligent in upkeep and it has resided its whole life out of the water on a lift, inside a boathouse).

The ski locker you just bought was factory-installed in his SS201. I can advise from 27 years of experience with it that you have an excellent hull there with great ride, stability and weather ability. His boat has the original 3.8L GM V6 and with that engine will hit an honest 40 mph, unloaded in a bit of light chop. Your 4.3L should get you an extra mph or two with the right prop. As you probably know the thing is rated for 10 people or 1800 lbs of persons and gear. We've had 10 adults in it and it will still plane and move along well with that 3.8L V6 (though we have dreamed of repowering with a 5.0L v8).

Good luck with the rest of the rebuild. We will follow along and if we can help at all we'd be happy to, even though your Riders continue to beat the pants off our horrible Bombers...;)

Cheers,

Hey Paddichuck, thanks for stopping by and welcome to the Starmada, (you can be a member because you have been in a family with a Starcraft since 1985) lol. I am really looking forward to splashing this boat for just the reaons you described above. This one also had a ski locker from the factory , but when they replaced the rotten center section of the floor they just covered it over and threw out the aluminum trim it sat in. You should post up some pictures of your fathers 201. What part of Manitoba do you boat in? And I'm sure the wheels will fall off the Roughriders wagon in the month ahead!!!!

Re: 1986 ss 201

DII,

Thanks for the quick reply. We do pretty much all our boating on Lake of the Woods. I'll see if I can dig up (or take) some photos the 201. And thanks for the welcome to the Starmada. My family has a long history with a number of Starcrafts. I fished many summers with my grandfather in a 14 footer and dad's previous boat was an 18' Creamsicle (orange and white) hard-bow Holidayer (I see yours is a bow-rider). I have fond memories of falling asleep up under the bow buried in life jackets as a kid. Another great boat.

Hey Paddi, that's awsome, I grew up in Winnipeg and rural Manitoba, spent a lot of time at a small lake outside of Kenora called Sherwood lake, never did get to Lake of the Woods, wish I had of though. pic would be great.

Re: 1986 ss 201

Okay as promised, some progress. My new seats came in the mail, I really like how comfy they are and nice quaility, also got 11 yards of grey, and 7 yards of blue vinyl for the upholstery upgrades.

Floorcut002.jpg

I have the ply blocks all made up for cinching down the tank, sealed with four coats of spar varnish and rubber strips glued in place where they contact the tanks. These will be bolted too the front and rear bulkheads.

Floorcut006.jpg

And the time consuming parts, the front of the new rear deck cut and fit, and four sections of floor cut and fit ready for joiner and seat doublers.

Glen, I am really digging those transom hatches you have started back there:D I'm thinking just about the same sort of set up for the Islander:cool:

Deck looks great buddy!
