Boat ran great couple months ago. Primed it to start yesterday and fuel bulb never got hard and notice fuel leaking from a manufacturered hole in the side of the carb. Had carbs rebuilt three years ago. Is this another rebuild needed?

Sounds like a faulty float and/or float needle valve on that carb. Can you remove the carb top and inspect/clean/repair float valve? Otherwise overhaul that carb. Good Luck!

DIYer, I have a dt85 and I will have gas coming out of the same holes that I believe you are describing if I over pump the bulb. My motor runs fine so I am going to say that is normal. You may have a faulty bulb that is not working properly and letting gas back flow to the tank. They are designed to only let gas flow in one direction. That would make sense on why you can't build up pressure. I'd start by replacing it first and see what happens. Did the motor ever start? Did you treat the gas pryor to the motor sitting? If not, as Yam said I'd do a complete break down and cleaning of the carbs.
Good Luck.

carbs should not have fuel coming out externaly anywhere.
The float is not seating the needle due to trash or float settings or problems. when the bowl fills up the float seats the needle and shuts off the incoming fuel.
This may be a reason Waffles1 has had RPM problems he has not solved.

Re: 1986 Suzuki DT75TCLG CARB LEAKING

My rpm problems have been solved. The motor was on a different boat and rpms where fine. The problem ocurred after I switched to a little heavier boat. After several threads and suggestions I dropped pitch and all is well. As I said, motor runs fine. I bought this motor new 21 years ago, have had the carbs rebuilt 3 times buy a very reputable mechanic, rebuilt them twice myself and the engine runs like a top and at wot has 5400 rpms since the pitch drop. The whole time if I "OVER" pumped the bulb gas would come out from the top, back left of all three carbs. It is a manufactured hole and I have always assumed that this was the purpose. Why else is it there? I maybe wrong but my 21 year old motor does this and runs like a champ. DIYer I'll grab my manual when I get the first chance and see if i can tell you what these holes are for where the gas is coming out. As I said, I maybe wrong and if I am I will admit it. I was just basing it off my own experience with basically the same motor. I enjoy helping others out based on my own past experiences and the great deal of information I have learned from the very knowledgable people in here including 99yam40. I don't slam others opinion even though I disagree. I just base it off what i have learned. I am not always right and I learn from that. The threads that have been mentioned are not recent and I like when people go back and research my past threads but i do wish they would read all the threads before making comments. Good luck on your problem DIYer.

Re: 1986 Suzuki DT75TCLG CARB LEAKING

DIYer, I did some research and found out this is a bowl vent. Gas will come out when excessive amounts cause the bowl to over fill. This could be from a float being stuck while running and the fuel pump forcing excessive gas in the bowl and can also come from over priming with the primer bulb either while running or not running. If it is overflowing while running and you aren't priming you have a float issue. It can also overflow if you prime too much with it not running. I hope this answers your original question. Good Luck.

Waffels1,
Sorry if you took it that way, I did not mean to knock you, I was just saying that this may be a common problem that you were having also.
I did not see where you posted that you had solved your problem, if you did post it. I just saw repeated posts stating you had the problem

I have messed with many, many motors over the past 40 years, but not every brand I will admit, and have not seen one that would push fuel out without a problem with the float or needle and seat. It is true that priming bulb can put out a lot more pressure than the normal fuel pump if you squeeze hard enough, but The float should seat the needle and stop any incoming fuel.

Again sorry if I upset you. I will try to watch my comments after a cold one or 2 and keep them directed only to the original posts.

99yam40, I respect your knowledge and I too apologize. maybe I took it the wrong way. I read a lot of your posts and try to remember things you say because they are very helpful to me and maybe I can pass that along to others as well. i am not young either and have worked on motors since i was kid. But there is always new technology that I am lost with. I will keep reading and learning from your posts as well as others. My knowledge is mainly based off of my suzuki and a few mercs. But I enjoy this forum. Hope to read more of your posts. Good day!
