Hey everyone.
For once I am trying to get the jump on spring and get things done early.
New to all this so help is appreciated. The boat is in :confused:my shop and time to get it ready. On the list is a new impeller and I want to reseal the lower unit. It appears to leak a little and I do not want trouble. Should the lower unit be disassembled or just input and output seal replaced. Also is there any thing else I should look at while I'm at it.
Thanks

the lower unit needs to be pressure tested and see where it leaks, before determining what need to be done. it could just be the seals on the drain and vent screws. they are a one time use item, need to be changed everytime removed. #1 place for water intrusion.

I just drained the lower unit and the lube looks good. There does not appear to have been any water in the unit. There appears to be a leak in the prop shaft seal as there is some oil leaking out of it that has occurred since it has been sitting. should I have it pressure tested or just replace the water pump and the lower seal since there was no water inside?

That oil seen dripping from the prop might just be unburned TCW-3 from the fuel mix. Is it black, and with a burned smell?
If it is amber and relatively clean it could be lower unit gear oil from a leaking seal as you suspect.

Yes it is black with the smell. Did not know about the other. That would be great just to have to put a water pump in and be happy.
