I'm trying to sell my '87 bw with a 87 40 hp johnson. It had set up 1 yr and the guy and I had agreed on a price subject to test run. It would run fine 15 min or so pulling a tube etc. Then it would start bogging down. Replaced tank, fuel bulb, line, carb kits, been to 3 reputable boat mechanics who cleaned etc. All with same results. This engine was vro but has always been run with mix due to owner pref. I saw on blog where an older boat sounded very much like this and has a condensor problem. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks,

is it running hot. have you checked spark on both cylinders when it starts acting up. have you tried, pumping the fuel line primer bulb. have you tried pushing the key in and activating the primer solenoid. that motor does not have a condenser. has stator, and power pack. is the oil side of the vro disconnect and the hose plugged.

Thanks for reply! Will check spark plugs. One mechanic asked about the fuel mix? Said it looked like lean to no oil. I asked the guy who mixed fuel. He said 1 pt to 6 gal which is right. Would the engine bogg down or get hot and seize? Aren't some fuel oil additives clear?
Thanks

no oil that is clear. check compression also. one pint of tc-w3 outboard motor oil to 6 gallons.
