# 2 cylinder failed as a result of pieces of the plastic gear getting up the bore. The gear failed because someone disconnected the oiling system and did not remove the pump coupling and the pump seized.
Question. Will this motor run run without the plastic drive gear or is this required to provide sealing? I think it will be ok but would appreciate an expert opinion.
Thanks.

As Dukedog said it will run without it, the blockoff is part #43453 and the screws are # 10-41506 and o-ring # 25-32509.

MERCURY OIL INJECTION BLOCK OFF # 43453

OIL INJECTION BLOCK OFF FOR MERCURY V6 2.0 / 2.4 / 2.5L ONLY. Does not include o-ring needed to complete assembly.

Thanks for the part numbers Faztbullet.
My dealer had all in stock. Small bucks to pay for the proper thing. Makes you wonder about Mercury's thinking. Must have been aware of problems with the oil pump.
Happy new Year.
