A good friend of mine just bought a 1987? Mercury 9.9 Tiller Handle outboard. It came with the remote controls as it had been on a pontoon boat, but the seller still had the tiller handle attached with the throttle and shift cables hanging loose inside the cowling.
Since this is going on a 1436 Jon Boat, my buddy would prefer to just reattach the throttle and shift cables that run from the tiller handle.
Unfortunately, he doesn't currently have the OEM shop manual for that engine.
We took a look at it today, and are both at a loss as to how those cables should connect to the outboard. It would appear that they would attach to part 15 in the attached diagram, but how they should connect is still a mystery.
The cables had also come loose from the cam inside the tiller handle housing.
I'm hoping that someone has a diagram or a good scan from an OEM manual telling how to reattach these cables and get his engine ready for the water.
The outboard serial number is: 0B103402 which from what I can tell puts it in the 1987 year range.
I took several pictures of the throttle cables and can attach them if needed to assist with the answer here.
Thanks.
