I just inherited a motor from my friend. His dad passed away and they wanted me to have it because they knew my interest in outboards.

Its all been painted camo so everything that identifies it is covered up. The ID plate and the hp on the motor cover. Tomorrow I will strip the paint off of the ID plate and see what it is.

anyways, things on this motor are new to me. First off its cable throttle, not gears. Im sure the ignition doesnt work like my 76. My 76 is points. The little research I have done shows this isnt a points system.

The motor sat for about 4 years under a roof, but outside. The outside looked rough and dusty, but when I took the cover off, it looked pretty new.

The initial questions I have is that the throttle is stiff when I try to throttle it dry. Where can you lube / spray these models to loosen the cable steering up?

also, what kind of ignition system are on these motors for the most part and do they require servicing?

I will take some pictures tomorrow to help you guys out with my questions.

thanks

Matt

the paint covering the ID tab, I couldnt get off well enough to read.

Are there some things in this motor that I can identify that will tell me what year it is?

I know its at least a 1987 because it has cable steering.

thanks

look for a quarter size disc on the block, with #'s on it. should be model and serial #. we need model #.
