So im looking at a 1987 sea ray sorrento 19' bow rider with a 5.0L mercruiser. Its a little older than i wanted to go on model year but its a one owner boat and seems like real high quality deluxe boat. I owned a 17' sea ray seville some years back and it was a great very solid boat. Any one have anything to look for about the sorrento? Was there any special known problems with that model? Re: 1987 sea ray sorrento 19'

I had an '88 Sorrento with a 4.3LX MerCruiser. The powerplant was excellent. The boat had spots of quality and inferior workmanship. For example, the plywood deck is routinely sprayed with a chop gun (chopped fiberglass and resin). On my SR, parts of the deck had a nice solid covering, and some had resin only. Obviously the part with just resin rotted out. Also, I think part of the hull was not foamed properly, as a strake cracked right down it's center.

In summary, if the boat was built with quality, it is a quality job, but don't go on SR reputation alone.
