Hey, I didn't forget about showing off my questionable factory work. This is what is under my cap in the bow.. they did put the spacers on the sides in one of the pieces.. not sure if that made it worse or better :faint2::cold::embarassed:

Well not as much progress as I would have liked. Got some stuff cleaned up in the garage and realized I had just enough CSM to do 1 of my side pieces.

I have some other, heavier CSM that I'll try and use tomorrow. But looks like I'm headed back to the fiberglass store next week.

Heavier CSM??? What weights are you using? It should all be 1.5oz.

I'm using 1.5oz for everything. It may be the same weight. It just felt stiffer and thicker when I had looked st it before I used it for pre-coating my stringers before they attached to the hull

Well Alrighty Then!!!! I was thinking HMMMM I hope he's not using .75 oz cuz that's NOT gunna work. They Also make 2oz but not as readily available as the 1.5 and .75. CSM is NOT very uniform and some areas do feel stiffer than others due to it containing more fibers.

I made a little grinding tent using some old plastic over the cap and then generating air flow by two fans in the back and one in the front. Just finished up my first grinding session and I think it's working great!

Well just kidding Woodonglass I dont have any of my 1.5oz mat left lol used every last square inch. I still feel like it may be thicker than my 1.5oz.. but it doesn't really matter.

But after a 6 hour grinding session I got the entirety of the hull walls ground down and the bow section as well. The tent worked great to funnel the air straight through the boat. Not perfect.. but I'm not either, so that's fine for me! Just trying to avoid the cocaine factory I had going on before.

I trimmed the excess glass off the one piece of floor I did. And then used the extra mat my friend had to do the other side and rear piece. Only the front section to go and then we will start installing the floor!

You need to calculate the cubic ft of space you have under the deck. 12x12x12 inches = 1 cubic foot. 2# foam is what's typically used and it takes 2# of the 2# foam to fill 1 cubic foot. Sooooo a 16# kit does 8 cubic ft.

Base on your pics, I'm GUESSING you'll need about 24 cubic ft to fill below the deck. That should run somewhere in the $200-$250 range

Yea this place doesn't do it by the pound it's by the gallon. Although I'm sure it does have a weight on it.

from my rough calculations. I have 6" depth under the deck, x 4' wide x 12' of the boat. On each side. Plus the front. So that puts me 24 cu ft. Per side. 48 total. Plus the front. guessed at 5?

So 55 to be safe? Seems like a lot. I'll have to do measurements when I get home

fyi they said that a gallon of foam is 8.5 cubic feet. But that foam is more expensive than resin! Crazy

That's about right... my 2 lb foam kit came as 2 1gal containers (part a and part b) and it was a 16 cu ft kit

Thanks Mad Props props I think that makes sense. I just need to figure out how much I actually need. This place may not be the best option for price.

but I did get 12 yds of 1.5oz CSM and 10 yards of Mat. Plus some more chopped fibers and milled fibers. Andddd another 5 gal of resin. I'm down to 1.5 gal left. Which means I've used 13.5 so far in this build

Also, it is temperature sensitive, the warmer it is the more it expands. I have actually set the bottles in warm water before when using them in cooler weather. And it goes off Very quickly, like withing about 20-30 seconds. So be prepared....

Arch builder is dead on... I did mine last fall on a 60 degree day, so I stuck a hair dryer in the hole on high for about 10 min before each section was poured.

ah I've heard of people warning about how fast it sets off. I'll be sure to try and be quick about it. And very interesting about it the temperature sensitivity. I'll definitely keep that in mind

Ooh I like this idea. Gives you more time before mixing, but expands more once it's in. I have a heat gun I'll probably use to warm the cavity.
