I recently pruchased a 1987 Wellcraft 180 fisherman. Does anyone know the fuel capacity on t his boat? Either my fuel gauge is wrong or it doesn't agree with what I thougth the boat held. I thought it was going to hold around 35-40 gals. but my gauge read 1/2 full and I put in 28 gallons and had to stop before I ran out of money. The gauge did show full or just under after this .
Thanks

carry a spare can , and run it as close to empty as you can. they also read differently, with the level of the boat bow down, bow up. they are not totally reliable.

Wellcraft has the brochures online for their boats back to 1985.
Goto http://www.wellcraft.com/ click 'Owners' then 'Info Guides'
Here is the link for your's.

Your boat has a 43 gallon tank. Wellcrafts seem to have larger tanks compared to similar boats.
Nice to have on the water.:D Not so nice at the gas station.
Mine has 52 gallons when most other 20-22ft cuddys that I looked at were 35-45 gallons.

I'm not sure I'd want to use part of my storage for a gas can though. I have an 88 Wellcraft Elite 220 and I use about every area of storage I have for "stuff" - Vests (I really have way tooo many, but I figure if something happens we'll have them), ropes, bumpers, anchor, throwables, skis, trash bags, cooler (it has its own storage area).

Since I'm not totally convinced my gas guage is correct as my tach guage is somewhat off, my trim guage is reallly off, I'll keep it full (or close) just for peace of mind.

I hate those posts where people have said they ran out of gas when the guage said they still had a quarter of a tank or something.

Re: 1987 wellcraft fuel tank capacity

THANK YOU. I have been on wellcraft's website many times and never found that until today. I guess you have to look! I have always wanted one of these boats and so far been very pleased, but it is still a minor project boat. I still have some decking issues etc. that will have to worked through with time. Thanks again to all the posts. Now does anyone know where the question and answer forum for women is?????:

Re: 1987 wellcraft fuel tank capacity

You're very welcome.
I've always been worried about running out of gas, so I track my mileage pretty closely. I use the 'Trip' function on my GPS and keep a spreadsheet of how far I run and how much gas I put in. 300 miles so far this summer & 125 gallons.

So with the big block I'm averaging 2.4mpg (very happy with that:D) which gives me a 110mile range with 10% reserve.
Just last weekend we went 109.6 miles and the gas guage was reading 1/8 tank when we got back on the trailer. So my guage is pretty accurate when at rest. It just bounces around alot when we are moving.;)

I fill my up prior to every boating. I know people say carrying around extra weight, but I don't care. My guage works fine but I just don't want to take any chances.
