I just bought an older mako 17' with a 1987 yamaha 115. The owner told me that the oil injection was disabled so mix your own gas/oil. I noticed that the oil hose under the center console was pluged, and there was no oil tank in the boat. When i took the boat out on its first run, it ran great until the alarm( a loud annoying constant beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep)went off and the engine bogged down. I checked the oil in the resevoir under the cowling hood and it seemed to be around the minimal area. I added oil and the alarm went away and the engine ran fine. Does this mean that the oil injection is working and that I am runner double oil to this engine? What would be the best way to handle this? And could this cause any potential harm?

It appears it is still working and you are running double oil. You would need to test at each cylinder intake to be sure it is working properly. If it is you have the choice of replacing the tank and using oil injected or disabling the injection and running non injection.

You check the output while running on the hose and removing the line to each intake and see if it is actually pumping oil to that intake port. You must be running on a gas oil mix while doing so.
The short term expense is less to remove the injection. Pull the oil pump and shaft. Block the hole off. Remove the engine mounted tank and control unit. Block the lines at the intake ports.
One of the big advantages of the oil injection is the lack of oil in the carb, making restrictions less likely.
