I've assembled everything from the head gasket up with new Yamaha parts (thanks to Iboat parts department and excellent advice given by several members in old posts) and been able to start the engine. No leaks when run in a test tank (a large new trash can) for a few minutes. I have hooked up an inductive timing light to cylinder #1 and at idle (about 900 RPM with the motor in neutral) the mark is at "0". The manual says 10 degrees +/-1. As I understand it, the motor should be put in gear. What is the approximate timing while not in gear. If I can do a preliminary adjustment before I take it to the water that would be helpful.
