I have a DT 150 SS suzuki that is fouling 1 set of plugs, the left bank lower plugs. What could be causing this problem? Other than this the motor runs just fine. Could it be overheating? I have new thermostats but want to be sure this is the problem before i start replacing parts.

I have used the synthetic blend penzoil for the past 4 years. All of the other plugs look normal and I change all 12 plugs every year, NGK's B8HS as per the clymers manual. Do this look like a clogged water jacket in the head? It's been trouble free till this?

Something is off on that cylinder(s). Either the spark, the spark plug, the mixture, or the compression. Check the easy stuff first.
Is the plug the correct one and is it working?

Do you have spark to the plug?
Do a compression test.
Check the carbs for a rich mixture.
Is that the same cylinder to which the fuel pump is attached? If so check the fuel pump.

Update !!!! Motor has lost rings on number 6 cylinder. Aprox. how much should it cost to rebuild properly and is it worth rebuilding since the suzuki parts are so expensive?

Re: 1987dt150

Average retail worth of that year Suzuki is $510 (NADA book). To pay someone to rebuild it or to buy a rebuilt powerhead is going to cost >$1000 and you will still have an engine worth $510. If you do the work yourself it will save some but its going to be >$500. Its a debatable question but I would guess you could part the engine out on EBay for more than $500 and you could put that towards another used engine of similar or better age.

Re: 1987dt150

I've chosen to rebuild for around $2000. I found a 86 Mariner 150 for $4200, a Mercury XR4 150 for $5200 and a 91 Johnson Venom 175 for $5200 but i wasn't willing to pay that much.
Thanks for all the help.

Go to www.nadaguides.com and look up the retail value of those or other engines. Those prices seem high for those year motors. You should be able to find something comparable for less. Maybe you could go out of state.
