88 evi 15hp, wont shut off. checked the power pack and the stop diode works when i ground out the switch.
so, it seems the tiller switch is bad.
i dont want to sound cheap, but a new switch is over a hundo. where can i find a used one? and how do i get the stupid thing out? do i drive out the press pin in the handle? motor is a later model and im not really used to working on these.
thanks

Check out the "Top Secret File" near the top of this page. It has a list of salvage yards that will have (should have) the kill switch. As for taking the old one out, my suggestion is to get a service manual for that year motor. May sound like a cop out to ya, but, it's a tricky job and the manual will have photos and descriptions far better than mine would be.

ok, thank you for the advice.
thinking i may use a earlier model stop switch on the cowl. there is a hole there already, and i would have a kill switch, but no deadman. the other option is a aftermarket deadman, or ... bite the bullet and go oem

Heres a picture of my $10.00 fix on a 1987 8hp. I no longer have a deadman switch but one could easily be added if required. I did have to drill a hole in the cowl to mount it. $100.00 + for an OE replacement is insane and IMO they are junk, I've heard of a lot of failures on them.

I know I see them in our local fleetfarm store for around $5.
They are sometimes called a horn switch or tractor switch.
In any case, its just a momentary switch and it will work.
