I have had my boat(1988 Sylvan 18'8" bow rider) apart for quite a while doing some repairs when I got the time. I have finally gotten it back together but I noticed that after running out of the water with muffs on there is soot on the transom and propellor. I originally had an over heat problem and numerous other small problems, but not this soot problem. This is a list of what i have done. New sea water pickup tube(through transom), starter, fuel pump, oil pressure sending unit, alternator, manifold, riser, all hoses, timing gear cover, thermostat, distributor cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires, exhaust flappers, and all related gaskets. I have also had the carb rebuilt at a marine service center. I pulled the plugs and they are pretty black and sooty as well. Does some one have any ideas why this could be happening? Running rich maybe? Talk about a let down after all this work. I sure want to get this boat on the water. Please Help!!!
