I have my outdrive seperated while off the boat. It was laying on the garage floor and now there is outdrive fluid all over the floor. No I didnt drain it before I seperated it. But last year before I put it away I did notice a small amount leaking out weep hole at ottom of drive. My question is should there e fluid on floor even though it wasnt drained?

Of course it will leak if you have the upper and lower units seperated. There is a passage between the upper and lower housings (where the quad seal lives) go together. When apart, the gear lube comes out.

Ok that is what I thought but had to ask. Now another question. My drive even when off clicks when in gear. Manually putting it in gear and checking prop shaft. locks in one dirrection and makes a clicking noise in the other. Reason I took it off was due to the fact I could adjust the shift cable to not make noise when in gear. Shift cable was intalled last year. and was fine till we changed the water pump.

that's what it's supposed to do. rotateing the shift shaft from one extreme to the other will result in. prop lock ccw is fwd. it'll ratchet the other way.... prop lock cw is rev. it'll ratchet the other way. the ratchet sounds is the undercut gears sliping by themselves as they go by the ramp on ea. tooth.... half way inbetween rotation of the shift shaft will result in freewheeling either direction..... no ratchet.... this is neutral.....
since ya got the drive apart. and now no lub in it... might be a good time to pressure test the halfs.... just a thought....
