This is my first boat and my first post.
I have a 1988 Evinrude 150 outboard and just noticed what seems to be an oil leak. It appears to be coming from the section that connects the gear case to the motor. I am confused because it looks like oil and not gear lube. Can somebody please help me as to what this might be coming from? I attached a picture below. I don't know if this has anything to do with it but, I just replaced the water pump.
Thanks,
Dave

It looks to me it is just unburned fuel coming from the motor.

Thanks for the response.

Would that be a problem? How would the unburned fuel come out there?

I suspect a fuel leak. Check all the fuel hose connections under the hood.

Lower main seal? Just throwing it out there.

When I broke in my engines I saw oil coming out of there but it stopped when I stopped doubling oil. I was thinking maybe I screwed up my lower seal; but it stopped :)

The airbox drain hose may not be connected on one end or may be cracked and leaking.

The airbox may also have a bad gasket. Leaks like that are more frequent if you store the motor tilted up so that the engine cannot drain properly.
