1988 evinrude 175 carbs

i was wondering if 1988 johnson carbs will fit on my 1984 evinrude xp150? if so would it benefit me to buy these carbs? or are the carbs i have the same as these?

They are probably slightly bigger than the XP carbs. The size is cast in the front of the carb body. If they are larger they'll help on top end if you're at 6000 rpm or more. Acceleration may be slightly less.

Look at the numbers on both and post what they are. Most likely they're something like 1 1/4 or 1 5/16. I doubt the 175 carbs are 1 3/8 but you never know.......

You should have the 1 5/16" carbs. The 175 carbs are probably the larger, 1 3/8" throats. These carbs were designed to run on a 160 cubic inch engine. While they may run on your 149 cubic inch engine, you may have to spend an inordinate amount of time rejetting in order to get them to work properly at all rpm's. With no block modifications (like porting or high compression heads) you may be unhappy with the larger carbs.
