I have a force 125 motor that has sat since Feb. of this year before i baught it, i have cleaned out the carbs, and replaced the starter and selonoid, i was able to start it for about 5 sec each time then it would shut off, what can i do to keep it going, and also another problem i am having is, the starting is making the starter very hot and causing the starter to stop working all together. When i check the battery cable going to the battery it is very hot, also the cable going from the selonoid to the starter is very hot, i have been working on this engine for 2 weeks and would love to get it in the water. Also how long should it take before the water coming in to the empeler come out.:mad::

I have a similar engine and some residue remaining in the carb jets and tubes after cleaning was causing problems. Also check the fuel pump diaphram. Either several starts are causing the starter heating or your engine is too difficult to rotate, drawing too much current through the starter.

What would cause the difficult rotation, and how can i fix this. Thanx for any advice

Check the cable ends for heat.If hot at the ends they may be breaking down from age.Starters are not meant to operate for extended periods. If it required many or extended cranks you may have over heated the starter.Be sure all connections are clean and tight.
I have a feeling it sat more than just Feb.Over its life. The fuel system should be checked from tank to carb with special attention to cleaning.
You need to double check all passages and jets in the carbs and prove they are clear.

I had the same problem with my 89 and I ended up replacing the starter and the cables going from the bat all the way to the starter. Both pos and neg cables.
Yes you should be able to start it with a rope. On the flywheel you will see notches in the top. Take a 5 to 7 foot length of small rope and put a knot in one end and tie a peice of dowel on the other end. This will build your starter rope. Wrap this around the flywheel making sure that the knot is in one of the notches. Make sure the key is on and give it a pull. It takes mine about 3-4 pulls. It also helps to have a person push in on the choke.
It takes my waste water about 15-30 secs to start spitting out.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Re: 1988 Force 125

The engine is working, just took a little long with the pull cord, finally got it started, thanks for everyones help, one more question and it should be ready to go out. When i start the engine and let it run for a little bit I should expect water to come out of the 2 water holes about mid way up, the water is coming out the exhaust (the big hole just above the props). Can someone tell me if this right or broke, and where is the impellers located on the engine. Thanks for any help.
