Hello , everyone .

I have a 1988 Blue Fin with a Force 50hp . We have completely restored the boat and are very happy with it, I recently purchased a Tilt and Trim unit off of Ebay . It's the only thing this lil gem is lacking, I have spent a few Hours on here Milling thru the forums. I'm pretty sure I have found answers to my questions in a sorta kinda way . I do want to thank those that spend the time here , Helping others so they can get a piece of the boating life . My questions are these . the 507y8a 50hp force I have does not have tilt and trim , the tilt and trim ive purchased come pretty much ready to go. I have tested it and all . I was hoping to just use my parts and install the tilt/trim system onto my exisiting transom mount , but it isn't going to work. The pan doesn't have a place for the piston rod to push and the brackets don't have the holes to mount it to . Ive read on here of multiple people having problems with the pivoting pin freezing up etc .. Pretty sure I am going to have to remove that pin and then install it into the Tilt/trim unit I bought off Ebay . Is this really going to be my option ? Will I have to pull the powerhead to do this ? Thank you for your time in advance

I doubt that you'd have to remove the power head. You probably have to remove the motor. If you can post some pictures, I'm sure that there are some folks on this Forum that would be able to tell you exactly what you have to do.

You won't need to remove the head.
The T/T system is it for the 50?
The 50 needs a smaller unit.
Pics.
You'll need to take the motor off to install.
You might be able to install it while it's on but much easier when hanging on a lift.

If your existing engine does NOT have the mount for the top of the tilt cylinder and the stainless plate for the trim piston, you will need to use the complete unit you have purchased, including the pivot yoke. UNFORTUNATELY, to replace the pivot yoke it IS necessary to remove the power head. You may have just bought a very nasty job. It is not fun to remove the kingpin.

Ok , so this is how it all went . we were able to pull the kingpin along with the whole motor , after releasing the lower motor mount . used a chain hoist to support motor . took 3 of us to do it safely , but there was just enough room to slide it up and out . went back into the tilt/trim unit just as smoothly. we even changed the steering adjuster after we noticed new one was a bit shorter than the existing . was a lot of work but well worth not having to pull motor . Thnxs everyone for all the info , made it possible to even attempt this !

Good work you did well, helps with 3 of you to pass ideas around as well as a bit of moral and physical support.
