I have just started a complete restore of '88 Glas Z16. The exterior hull looks great but the interior was 90% rotted away. The bow area is the only sound wood in the boat. I also had to remove the foam. My early questions are:

1. What options do I have to replace the foam?
2. It seems the decking was covered with a thin layer of fiberglass or a glue substance: What are my best options to replace this layer with?
3. I discovered yesterday that the steering system is stuck and it appears to be in the rack and pinion bar under the dash; What are my options to repair or replace?

I will have many more questions as I go along, so all input and ideas are welcomed.

Thanks in advance,
William

Re: 1988 Glastron Z-16 Restore

Welcome to iBoats!

You can use the two part Pour in foam like you removed. www.uscomposites.com has it for a good price
The first link in my signature below has drawings and info on how to fabricate your stringers, deck and transom.
Rack and Pinion steering systems can sometimes be repaired but usually are just replaced. Do some googling and see what you come up with.

Thanks for the fabricating link and the composite info. It will come in handy as I progress with the project.

Yes, the brochure does indeed reflect the Z-16 I have. Thanks for the link. It was pretty cool to see a pic as it was advertised back in the day.
