Transom has a couple soft spots. It is small and pretty easy fix. To get the cap off. the aluminum corners are welded to the gunwale. I’m assuming it’s a matter of grinding off the welds and welding things back in place once transom is complete. Any helpful advise appreciated.

Nothing? Have never done this before, no potential pitfalls to look out for?
Guess I’ll be breaking out the grinder and go to town.

Can you take the wood out now ?-----You might be able to put new wood it without the grinding.-----Hint----I do not see any welding burn marks on the plywood that is there now

With the limited photos, it almost looks like you pull a few bolts and it'll slide out from the bottom. Reinsert replacement by putting top in first and then sliding bottom into place???

A photo further back might support this theory.

One of my first thoughts as well. The issue with that is I’d have to remove a bunch of solid rivets. T Four that go through the bottom. I have zero tools and experience to reinstall those .Clearance wise I think it would be close.

No chance. Those transom corners are covering the top and also are welded to the entire transom cap as well as the side rails of the boat

I'm wagering your transom goes all the way down to the hull (floor) and is sandwiched between your inner and outer transom skins. So that means, no matter which way you slice it, some solid rivets are coming out as it looks like there's a few through on either side. **In the pic with the angle bracket, I count about 20 or so solid rivets through the transom.

If it were mine, I'd be taking a closer look to how the boat was assembled to determine a viable game plan.

No the transom wood only goes down about half way. The back bench is so close to the transome it’s hard to get a picture .

Making progress with a cut off wheel, managed to get the first cast corner loose without cracking it.

It’s out and rotten it is. Smells like its yellow pine plywood .

The one that came out is measuring a tad less than 1 3/8. Measuring the gap on the boat between splashwell and transom, and the gap between corner supports and transom it varies between 1 1/4 and 1 3/4.the one corner is tight at 1 1/4. I was thinking it’d be 1 3/4 as well. Is less a common thing.

Edit. Brain fart, Meant to say I thought it’d be 1 1/2 as well . Dealing with a few things here including my dog tearing up a flying squirrel,
