1988 vip with 125 force

hello im a new boat owner. i have 2 problems with it. the tilt trim and steering. i can raise it all the way up and lower it back down but when i raise it up. it slowly comes back down. i called some boat places and they told me two diffrent things. ok now the steering it is hard to turn left and right and when i turn it one way and back to the other way it will pop at the motor area.. do i need a new cable or what. and what kind of steering is it . please help me

Not a Force guy so this will be generic. On the t&t As I iunderstand it there are valves that can leak also the pistons can leak down as well.As far as the steering it could be the cable.Unhook the cable and see if you can move the motor by hand.
You can also operate the cable alone see how it feels.
Someone else will have to help identify the type.
