The tilt/trim started working intermittently the other day. I chased elec. to the switches, motor etc. all good. I tapped on the small black plastic unit above the motor thinking it was a relay and the t/t started to work. The next day a friend misunderstood where I was tapping and tapped on the motor to get it to function. I'm guessing that I have a loose connection somewhere. Has anyone come across this before? I' love to know where to look before tearing too much apart. Thanks.

If it is intermittent with both the beep trim switch on the throttle and the rocker switch on the motor, you most likely have a corroded ground connection in the motor close to the relay. FRED

Re: 1988 yamaha 150 intermittent tilt/trim

Thanks for the reply Fred. I was thinking that it was a ground issue. Should I open the motor housing to look for a ground? I've got a manual on the way, just not sure what I'llfind without looking at a schematic of the motor. By the way this site has been a huge help tackling a bunch of issues, this being the first I've posted about. Thanks again. R
