Yes, you can use muffs on that engine. However, because of the curve of the gearcase they tend to spray a lot of water and tend to take a long time to prime. Sometimes it is necessary to get down there with your hands and hold the rubber tight to the gearcase--be careful--do not have anyone around who may decide to try the engine in gear. Best to remove the prop before getting your hands anywhere near the bottom
