That's one of the early inline-4 models. The stators were notorious for failure. Most have been replaced by now. Originals are black, replacements are red. The red replacements put out a stronger charging current and require a different voltage regulator. So what I am saying is that if you purchased an original replacement voltage regulator, it won't be strong enough if your stator has been upgraded.
It's easy to see which stator you have. You might have to remove the plastic cover, but you don't have to remove the flywheel. You can see the plastic of the stator. Black is original, red is the upgrade.
