1989 225 excel retro oil pump. the shematic shows the hose instalation different for the 150-175-200-& 225. the original pump had the same hose sequence on the pump. though the sequence is not exactly timed to the intake; the old pump was timed in sequence to the firing order of the engine. does anybody realy know which ports on the pump really go to each cylinder. no dealears can help me, not even the one that sold me the pump. also i understand that in 1990 they reversed the direction of the oil pump. even yamaha could not tell me.

your going to have to get the instructions that come with the kit. I think its also in the 2000 tech guide. yes the pump rotation changed as did the addition of inline check valves. I dont have my manuals here at the house but you really need the installation instructions for the new pump. the old pump is NLA.

Re: 1989 225 excel yamaha retro oil pump

actualy that is the problem. the instructions that come with the retro kit show a different sequence for the 1989 200 & 225. in fact they should be the same. i do not know which is rigfht if in fact either of them are; and i can not use the shop manual for a 2000 because the pump direction has changed. not knowing the sequence internally of the pump makes it impossible to know which is correct.

there may have been a reed change for the 200 and the 225. the 200 had no micro-processors and the 225 did. there are some other differences as well. follow the diagram for the 89 225 that came with the kit.

yes Rodbolt, that would certainly help. the original oil pump was in the same sequence for the 200 & 225.

There was no difference in the sequence for the 150,175,200 and 225 in 1989. The 90 model is when the pumps started running the other direction.

RAY, DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE SEQUENCE IS FOR THE 1989 225. WHAT PORT ON THE RETO FIT OIL PUMP GOES TO WHAT CYLINDER. I KNOW THE DIRECTIONS ARE WRONG. SOME SAY IT DOES NOT MATTER, BUT THE ORIGINAL MANUAL SHOWS WHAT CYLINDER GOES TO WHICH PORT ON THE PUMP?

Re: 1989 225 excel yamaha retro oil pump

I will try to describe it since I don't have a way to copy and send. The first port clockwise from the screw in the top closest to the block will be number 4. clockwise to the second port is #1 cylinder next clock wise is #2 then #3,#5, #6. Long hose is #1 medium is 2 3 4 5 and short hose #6.<br /> Hope this helps.

before we get to into it are you sure you have the new style pump. the new style has nipples on each side of the pump. the old style has 6 nipples in a circle on the top of the pump.

RAY, ARE YOU DESCRIBING FROM A 1989 OR 1990 MANUAL? SINCE THE PUMP DIRECTION IS DIFFERENT.

Re: 1989 225 excel yamaha retro oil pump

I am describing the 89 and back model per the manual. The new model pump is not configred the same. The orfices on the 89 and back are in a flat circle. The later models aren't. He asked for the 89 model configuration so he could compare to the instruction sheet which had two different configurations.

Re: 1989 225 excel yamaha retro oil pump

RAY, I HAVE A 1989 225 WITH A RETROFIT NEW STYLE PUMP WHICH IS LIKE THE ONES BEING USED ON THE 1990 EXCEPT THE DIRECTION IT TURNS, HENCE MY DELEMA. I HAVE THE MANUAL FOR THE OLD STYLE FLAT TOP CIRCLE PUMP, BUT NOT THE NEW STYLE PUMP. LOOKING AT THE FRONT OF THE NEW STYLE PUMP WITH THE MAIN OIL FEED ON THE LEFT; BACK RIGHT IS IN THE MIDDLE #4, FRONT RIGHT TOP #1 & FRONT RIGHT BOTTOM #2, LEFT FRONT MIDDLE #5, LEFT BACK TOP #3, & LEFT BACK BOTTOM #6. I THINK THIS IS RIGHT BUT I REALLY DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE SINCE THE DIAGRAMS THAT CAME WITH THE RETROFIT PUMP SHOWS IT 2 DIFFERENT WAYS NEITHER OF WHICH IS AS I JUST DISCRIBED. THEY SHOW DIAGRAMS OF THE TUBE ROUTING BUT NO DESIGNATION ON THE PUMP AS TO WHICH CYLINDER THE PORTS REALLY GO TO.
