This motor was laying on its side for about 2 days in the back of my truck, it's leaking gear oil after getting it mounted right side up from the hole in the picture? Guy I got the motor from said it probably leaked passed the upper shafts seal because of how it was laying. Seemed to have slower down after leaking about a 16th of a quart of gear oil...Obviously it's not normal so I'll keep an eye on it. But what is that hole normally for??

The hole is in the direct front center of the motor, right above where the lower unit mounts up.

Have your gear case pressure and vacuum checked. Upper seals probably leaking.

Just the seals that are leaking if that's the route you want to go.

It would make sense to renew the water pump impeller at the same time, You will have to remove the pump anyway to access the drive shaft seals.
Also renew any gaskets or O rings you disturb

The hole is just a drain hole.

Hole drains the midsection. Might be a leaking shift rod seal.
