1989 Evinrude 120 HP looper - Re-manufactured Power Head and Carb jets conundrum

Well if this string is still live, I want to post an update and ask a few more questions. First, I received the oversize main jets, .065D and completed the rebuild of the four carbs and have them mounted back onto the throttle bottle. They are ready to install on new power head. Picture attached.

I haven't ordered the power head yet because it has only a one year warranty and I don't want it sitting around burning warranty before I am ready to install it.

The questions: As noted by Faztbullet, the Crowley power head is remaned by OBR. I have come across another company that I have emailed called Black Bird Motors, Inc. that claims to have been serving the marine industry since 1972 and touting their remans as the best in the industry. As anyone ever heard of them and if so, what do you think about them vs. OBO?

Also, I thought it would be good to go ahead and replace my VRO oil lines, bulb and other rubber hoses. They are only 31 years old after all. It appears that the vro oil lines and bulb are no longer available from the manufacture. I suppose any oil tolerable hose would suffice, but I am concerned about the bulb. Any suggestions for replacing that. If God, the weather and my wire permit, I am going to replace the water pump this weekend.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Interesting. Thanks for the suggestions. I googled BBO per Racerone's last reply and came across some google reviews. I printed them ranked from lowest to highest. There are nine pages. Its goes to the middle of the fourth page before there is even more than a one star rating. Their overall ranking was only 3.3 stars out of 5. Not impressed. Seems like I saw the word "fraud" a lot in the reviews. I think Racerone pointed me in the right direction and Faztbullet may have hit the nail on the head.Thanks.

Things happen to me that I don't think happen to other people. I said earlier that I wanted to replace the water pump to have that done when I got the reman power head. I watched several videos of people removing the lower unit to replace the wate pump and it seems like the lower unit practically falls off the midsection when the last bolt is removed in those videos. In fact, one person actually said, you better have a buddy to hold the lower unit because when you remove the last bolt, it will fall off. Well, not for me. I do have the manual and followed it step by step. I have removed all the bolts, but I cannot get the lower unit to separate from the midsection. Remember, I have already removed the power head so the drive shaft isn't frozen to the engine. Perhaps I shouldn't have, but I even rapped the end of the drive shaft with a rubber mallet. I tapped all around the mating area too. That puppy simply won' t separate from the midsection. Any suggestions?

Never mind! Got it. There may or may not have been a second bolt under the trim tab that manual also decided to label with a bit E. Why it would have two bolts labeled with a big E is beyond me, but anyway, I got it.

Got the water pump kit installed, but haven't put the lower unit back on yet. I have done a Mercruiser and a Volvo Penta stern drive water pump years ago. This Evinrude was much more difficult. I know it is installed correctly and turns properly. I hope it doesn't leak and pumps water properly. Won't know for a while. Running out of smaller tasks to do. I guess I will have to order that power head pretty soon. Or I could re-pack the trailer wheel bearings. A follow up question for Faztbullet: I was asking about the VRO oil line and bulb. In reviewing your post, I realized that you said "Yammy fuel line with bulb". I think the fuel line and bulb and oil line and bulb are different on my Evinrude 120. You still think the Yamaha has something that might work? Thanks for eveyones' help.

Why would the Evinrude water pump be more difficult ?

The other two did not have a separate liner and housing that had to be adhered to each other with gasket compound, they didn't have o rings that had to be glued into their slots and the shaft key on this one was a bear to get aligned without the liner wanted to come lose from the housing despite the gasket compound while trying to get it positioned. Almost needed three hands.

I got the lower unit reinstalled today and have the power head ordered. Thanks to everyone for their help. I suspect I will be starting a new thread once I get started on the power head installation.
