Re: 1989 Evinrude 150 having problems

I messed a little with the deadman switch but didnt seem to make difference if it was down or up..I am taking to mechanic on monday to see what happened. Hopefully the switch just shorted out or something.

Re: 1989 Evinrude 150 having problems

just had this prob on mine too change stator, rectifier, plugs switched power packs no spark followed the 1 pack so i orderd a new 1. sounds to me your packs are going bad mech told me it could afect just 1 or 2 of the 3cyls on 1 side not always all 3 sounds like both of yours are going bad. i guess thats why they say change them in pairs..... 200 bucks for 2 new ones. im not an expert but with this motor im becoming 1... electrical nightmare

I am going to inspect the shift switch for a sticky condition. As posted by Mr. Clanton.
This motor does not have a shift switch as its a crossflow, only the looper models have them. The oozing of the coil lamanations is usually a sign of a bad rectifier overheating stator..

Just dropped back off at mechanic he did quick diagnostic and it is either my ignition switch or the cutoff "deadman" switch. So he will diagnose further and replace correct switch. It will probably be finished cple days.

Forgot to post results for everyone...I had the ignition and killswitch replaced. That fixed everything. Been fishing 5 times with no problems so far. Engine runs nice does 40mph @4900 rpm on my 19' cc. Thanks for everyones input. I will always use iboats for my engine problems.
