Thanks Sam
my thoughts exactly-I’m going to bypass the signal wire with a new one and check. The new temp gage works fine without the “resistor” which was not provided this time. I do thank you for this valuable input as well as others who took the time to chime in

So I hooked up (ac) voltage meter across ground and send terminals on my tachometers while motor running and the gage is showing 14.7v. As I increase throttle the voltage goes up. I understand I should only be reading around 4volts while at idle...

My Tach on the 95 Sport Jet will work from either the tach output from the regulator or directly off the alternator coil lead.
The tach only reads the frequency of the pulses and not the voltage.

To update the debacle; after speaking and diagnosing with Veethreee tech support-the tach is faulty out of the box so I’ve returned for a replacement( glad to know that I’m not insane). They also informed me that there shouldn’t be any resistors connected between the I and S terminals on the temp gage so that was a doozie as well. Both issues were caused by them so I’m getting two new gages and it’s nice to finally know that it wasn’t something I did lol. Thanks to all who replied on this site.

Really hard to work with BAD NEW products as well as faulty instructions.

Bought 3 new Tempo primer balls. All 3 bad right out of the box.
Glad it's fixed.

Yeah it verified my sanity as I began to doubt every diagnosis and really began to wonder if the stator was indeed bad. The upside also is that my step dad works for veethree which manufactures these Teleflex gages and their quality control is about to get a reaming out because that initial temp gage un needed resistor burn up, could have caused a fire on the boat but only ended up frying the tachometer and popping the circuit breaker in the process. Thanks JJ

Started diagnosis on a 2000 115 Johnson using Outboard Ignition.com instructions.
A no spark situation.
I had changed the starter and the first time the owner tries to start it it won't.
So I'm trying to figure it out??

The first test says: measure the resistance between the Brown and Brown/yellow.
NO Brown/yellow????
OH NO!!!
Seems they didn't add this The br/y is also br/w
I'll figure it out.
