1989 Force 50 - question about carburetor adjustment screws

I recently purchased a boat with a 1989 Force 50 two-cycle outboard. I am tuning up the motor and would like to know where I need to set my carburetor screws at and which screw does what. One is brass, the other is plastic. Here is a picture.

There is also a mystery spring dangling that the previous owner said it has never been attached to anything. Surely it is suppose to be connected to something. Here is a picture of it.

Any help will be appreciated.

Correction, I have a 1991 Force 50 outboard. I keyed in the Model# (H0507X91A) on ********** and it said it was a 91 model. The motor was running good until I pulled my son around on a tube.

The white plastic "screw" is simply a plug for the air bleed jet. You only remove it for cleaning the carb and you screw it in tight--there is no adjustment.

The brass screw IS a low speed needle and preliminary setting should be 1 to 1 1/4 turns out from lightly seated.

The mystery spring is just that. It was never on any stock force engine. perhaps a previous owner put it there in a vain effort to help return the trigger to idle position. Remove it before it bounces up under the flywheel and causes trouble.

Thanks for your help Frank. I'm glad to have found a forum where there are people who actually want to help, rather than badmouth the boat and motor you own. The bottom line is, we all want to be out on the water enjoying it regardless of how fancy or simple our rig may be. Again, thanks for your help.
