I started working on a 15 hp Game King I picked up last fall. It's still way too cold here to play in water, so Saturday morning I pulled it in the garage and let the gear case oil drain while I was at work. Pressure tested and replaced the oil when I got home then thought I'd see if I could get it to fire before I changed the impeller.
Compression and spark seem fine, though I had limited time so did not do a proper test on them.
After replacing a bad feed hose with a new one, I got the bulb to get hard. No signs of fuel leakage, so gave it a few pulls - no life. I sprayed some fog into the carb and could get it to pop like it wanted to run but seemed fuel starved. Tried the same with Power Tune with the same results.
I only had enough time left before the Admiral was due home to take "her" garage back to pull the gear case and replace the impeller, which it needed badly. After that I wheeled it back into the cold to sit for nicer weather.
Sunday morning I decided to do something about the fuel system. I froze my fingers off (wind chill was around 20f) but got the carb off and into my small, but warmer workshop. Taking it apart, it didn't look horrible but definitely had some nasty crud in the bowl. I spent a couple hours thoroughly cleaning it and did find a small amount of crud under the old welch plug as well. One I figured which of the 3 possible carbs it was, I ordered the parts to rebuild it.
While I was at it I decided - why stop there? I found the parts to rebuild the fuel pump for less than $10 and ordered new fuel lines as well. May as well eliminate as many potential fuel issues as possible before it gets a run in the barrel.
I hope to have some time next weekend to properly test compression and spark. If the forecast is correct, we mat actually see 50 degrees on the 15th so want everything ready to go before that.
Anything I'm missing or overlooking? I always appreciate help. I'm 69 and still learning.
