1989 merc oil injection question

my motor rus fine , has oil tank inside motor cover, as i been reading this board, i been hearing alot about discounting oil injection unit can i get some options, as i had this boat 1.5 months and the motor is freshwater and very clean but i am worried about the pump failing after reading posts saying disconnect it<br />bob

I run a 1989 200hp Merc and as far as I my opinion, leave it alone they just don't fail that often.<br />"If it anit broke, don't fix it"

the only real oil inj.. issues are on v6 outboards due to the plastic drive gear & running it over 6000 rpm's... Other merc oil systems are just fine other than the old AUTO blend.. If you have that toss it away..

sounds like you have a 3 or 4 cyl.. Motor.. that system is fine.. only issue is sunken oil tank floats sending off alarms.. toss away injectiom IS the AUTO BLEND.. In the back of the boat... it mixes the gas& oil In the BOAT.. TOSS those..

I think there is some confusion here. I guess it would help to know what kind of engine we are talking about.<br />Most of the V6's have injection systems that work just great. The tank in the boat simply supplies oil to the tank on the engine via a pressure system.
